Advice | Support | Campaigning
Carers UK is a charity set up to help the millions of people who care for family or friends. We provide information and advice about caring alongside practical and emotional support for carers. Carers UK also campaigns to make life better for carers and influences policy makers, employers and service providers, to help them improve carers' lives.
Expertise and support
Carers UK's freephone advice line is run by experts and advices thousands on their rights, benefits and practical help. One call to our experts can make a difference like the caller told us "I did not realise I was entitled to this extra money. This will make such a difference to my children."
We also offer the kind of support that can only come from someone else who knows what caring is like. We have volunteers who have been there and got the T-shirt. They offer support and a listening ear through local branches, over the phone or online. Our online support forum is a genuine lifeline for carers and is there 24/7 so you can talk to other carers about the ups and downs of caring.
Carers UK has a history stretching back to the 1960s when a carer called Mary Webster founded the first ever carers' organisation. This organisation merged with another carers' organisation to form Carers UK. Throughout our history we have fought for and won many rights for carers including Carer’s Allowance – a dedicated benefit for carers. Today we continue to fight to get it raised to a decent amount. Over the years countless thousands of our members, as carers themselves, have fought for a better deal for carers and have helped to lead and shape the charity and ensure that Carers UK is truly ‘carer-led’.
When you join Carers UK and become a member you'll become part of a long tradition of carers supporting each other and joining together to get things done.
