In a variety of extremely difficult circumstances and at considerable financial and personal cost, they give of themselves to an extent which most of us would find it hard to imagine. I am therefore delighted to give my support to Carers Week promoted by local charities the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, Carers Northern Ireland, Macmillan and Parkinsons. I hope that it has the effect of bringing the role of carers into sharper focus - not only during this week, but in the weeks to come.'
