TV Presenter and legendary charity-campaigner, Esther Rantzen, proved a massive hit during Carers Week’s first ever celebrity web-chat. Regular visitors to The Princess Royal Trust for Carers were shocked at the number of new faces in the chat-room, with one quick wit quipping ‘extra chairs were needed!’ With so many questions Esther’s time with forum members passed swiftly, but some key issues including respite, advocacy and the use of volunteers to assist carers were well debated. Esther has long been associated with Carers Week having been an ardent supporter for the past decade. In fact Esther Rantzen was the first celebrity to support Carers Week, and 10 years on she’s still flying the Carers Week flag. She has experienced caring herself, both with her daughter who suffered from severe ME, and caring for close friends. Moved, inspired, and angered by what she read, Esther no doubt learnt a great deal from chatting with the carers who were able to log-on for the event. |
