Carers meet on Carers week

An afternoon of fun and relaxation for those who care for others - all are welcome to join a diverse range of charities who serve the community. From massage therapy to laughter yoga, carnival mask making or having your nails done to information on the different types of support that is available. Come down and join us at the Disability Resource Centre between 2pm and 6pm on Friday 15th June. The event will be opened by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant at 2pm.

Socialise drop in for adults with learning disabilities and Senior citizens free tea coffee and juice for all information about our drop in and support for carers

Carers Awareness

Over 70 people attended the Carers Awareness event at Winchester House on Tuesday 12th June. We had a talk from Maggie Bennett about caring for people with dementia, speakers from GD Legal Services talked about the importance of having a Lasting Power of Attorney and how this protects both carers and the cared for person. Helen from IWC answered a range of financial questions and we had a demonstration from Telecare and Carers IW Manual Handling trainers. The Living Well team were present to help people understand that even if you were not eligible for Adult Social Care support that the IWC have recognised this and currently fund this team to assist with finding the right support for you.

We Care Campaign is hosting a twitter question and answer session for all carers with the Shadow Minister Barbara Keeley. Carers can ask their questions Thursday 1-2pm using hashtag #ValueCarersQuestions

Launch of Carers Outcome Resources for Practitioners

SSSC have created resources about Carers Personal Outcomes including an E-book. The event will share the resources with local practitioners in Health and Social care (including Third sector) and demonstrate how to use these.

Baring Cares

For 3 days pupils and staff at Baring Primary School will be completing as many acts of kindness and caring as they can. Caring for our friends, our environment, our teachers and families. Pupils will be sponsored by their families and at the end of the week we will total up all the acts completed at school and at home.

Caring for Ourselves

12 noon -2pm. Booking is required please so we don't over run the room. Small group discussions, self help, signposting to support, representative from Health and also from Birmingham Carer's Hub will attend. The aim is to help Carers remember to care for themselves too.

Rutland Radio Broadcast

Jacqui Darlington has been speaking to Lydia Meredith from Rutland Radio about Carers Week and supporting Carers to get Healthy and Connected. Jacqui is also visiting Rutland surgeries and having a stand with various information for carers This broadcast can be heard throughout the week via Rutland Radio 107.2 and 97.4FM

carers coffee and cake drop in day. Open from 11am till 4pm, for carers to call in for coffee and cake, advice, health checks and just a chat.

The Essence Service information stall

To celebrate Carers week, the Essence Service will be in Sainsbury’s, Silksworth, Sunderland this Thursday 14th June between 11am and 3pm. We have an information stall – head upstairs to the café area to find us! Come along, it would be great to see you there :o) No need to book in advance. The Essence Service provides support and information to people who have been diagnosed with Dementia and their Carers/loved ones.
