Help us set a young carers record!

To mark this year’s theme, which is ‘Getting Carers Connected’, we’re asking all of the young carers and families we help at SYC to ‘get connected’ by creating the longest-ever paper chain made by young carers in the world! When we’ve collected in as many links as possible, we’ll put our record-breaking paper chain together outside Debenhams before parading it up to the Town Hall, where we’ll make lots of noise for young carers! Hallam Square will then be the final destination for our young carers’ paper chain and the venue for our annual Carers Week celebration. We would love you to join us on Thursday 13 June! You can either meet us at the start of our parade (we will be gathering outside Debenhams on the Moor at 4.45pm and leaving promptly at 5pm) or at our Carers Week celebration in Hallam Square from 5.30-7pm. There will be drumming, craft activities and much much more, so please save the date or download a copy of our event flier here. Thank you in advance for helping us to raise awareness this Carers Week – and for hopefully helping us set our very own world record! You can find out more about our event at www.sheffieldyoungcarers.org.uk/news/carers-week-2019

Downham Market Sparkle Event

We will be at the Town Hall with our campervan of care at this lovely event A series of ‘Spark’ community events are being held across Norfolk as part of ‘Operation No Cold Shoulder’, a two-year project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Adults of all ages are invited to come along to a Spark event near them – there’ll be free tea and cake, and the opportunity to meet others, perhaps neighbours who have never met before, and find out what events and activities are happening locally. Organised by Community Action Norfolk, working together with Age UK Norfolk, Creative Arts East, Future Projects and West Norfolk Befriending, the aim is to reduce people’s feelings of loneliness or isolation by helping them build sustainable local connections in their home communities, which in turn improves their long-term wellbeing and enables them to live independently. All the Spark events run from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm and feature creative workshops, befriending schemes and mentoring support, along with information about how local Good Neighbour Schemes can help with everyday tasks that some people are unable to cope with by themselves - such as transport to medical appointments or the weekly shopping, or even just walking the dog or changing a light bulb.
