What could you do to raise awareness of caring?

28 January 2014 Written by

Carers Week is brought to life by the individuals, groups and organisations holding events and taking action throughout the UK.

Whether you are running an event in your workplace, an activity in your GP surgery, or a coffee morning in your community, find out how to get involved with Carers Week.

Be part of Getting Carers Connected

1. Why you should get involved

At some point in our lives, all of us will care for a loved one or be cared for ourselves. Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience, but sometimes it comes with its difficulties.

More than 6.5 million people in the UK are currently caring unpaid for a family member or friend who is older, disabled or seriously ill. Yet many people don’t identify themselves as carers –they simply see themselves as spouses, parents, sons, daughters or friends.

This means that many carers across the UK are not connected to vital information and support that can help them with caring.
Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign to ensure that everyone recognises the incredible contribution that carers make to families and communities across the UK.

All of us, wherever we live, have a part to play in ensuring the carers in our community get connected.

2. How you can get involved

During Carers Week we raise the profile of caring within communities, at places of work and in the media. Together we can get more carers connected to the information and support they need.

Why not run an event in your community or workplace to reach carers in your area or workforce? It doesn’t matter how big or small your activity is, you can make a difference by raising awareness of caring.

3. What next?

 - Register your activity on our website and you will be able to order a free pack of materials to help you promote your activity to more carers.

 - Use resources available in our online shop and on our website to raise awareness of caring and promote your activity.

 - Not organising an event or activity? You can show your support by making a pledge on the Carers Week website.

 - You can also spread the word about Carers Week on social media using our hashtag #carersweek.
