Throughout Carers Week, Gill Brabner of Resound Training and Development wants to help highlight the importance of supporting workers who are also carers, as it offers an ideal opportunity to flag up the issues they can face. She is offering free access to a Supporting Carers video throughout the week. The video, performed by actors shows a health worker who is constantly cancelling shifts, late to work, taking calls during work, carrying medication in the car causing suspicion etc. Colleagues are starting to complain – they aren’t aware she’s also a carer. It highlights a discreet and sensitive approach to a solution and how to avoid taking the highly-damaging performance management route. It's a highly valuable resource for anyone involved with managing staff.

Writers Who Care

Organised by

Gateshead Carers Association

Location

North East England - Gateshead

Dates

June Wednesday 9th

Writers Who Care is a collection of short stories, poems, and songs that tell our story and give you a glimpse into our lives. Since January 2021, a group of us have been meeting regularly online to take part in creative writing sessions with Liv Hunt. The aim of these sessions was to have a space where we could listen, be heard, connect and support one another. We weren’t too sure what to expect but we all knew we had a story to tell and the want to get our voices heard. And after weeks of connecting, thinking, talking, and writing this is what we have created. An anthology which gives a window into our world. And now we would like to share it with you. As part of the event, we will be talking a little bit about our individual journeys through taking part in the programme, a viewing of a film which documents our process, a few live readings of work created during the course, and then a Q&A. We would really love for you to be there. This project was supported and funded by Helix Arts, Gateshead Council Arts Team and Well Newcastle Gateshead.
