Becky is a carer for her mother, Lorraine, 61, who has mental health conditions including bipolar disorder. She provides emotional support, helping with appointments and medication. Lorraine struggles with general conversation and memory, so Becky helps her with communication.
She looks after her mum a lot during the week, including running errands for her like shopping.
She said: “Looking after mum when I was studying made it difficult to manage everything. It’s easier now I’ve graduated and my dad is retiring which will help us to split the caring between us, but it’s still a challenge.”
Alongside her caring duties, Becky is a mum-of-two and is a psychology graduate who works for the Samaritans and volunteers at The Zone in Plymouth, a charity which supports young people in the area.
