Liz Kendall meets with carers to mark Carers Week 2023

This afternoon Liz Kendall MP, Shadow Minister for Social Care and Member of Parliament for Leicester West, met and spoke with a group of unpaid carers about their recent experiences of caring and the challenges they are currently facing.

Organised by Carers UK and the six charities supporting Carers Week 2023, the six carers attending spoke to Liz about a range of topics, including the financial challenges they face because of caring, the difficulties they have in accessing breaks and respite support, the impact that caring has on their own health and personal wellbeing, and what they would like to change to ensure they are better identified, recognised and supported with their caring responsibilities.

Speaking after the event, Liz Kendall said:

I am so pleased to be able to join this afternoon’s discussion, hearing first hand from unpaid carers across the country about their day to day experiences and the challenges that they face. This Carers Week we recognise their remarkable contribution and reflect on the support that we must ensure they receive.”
