Unpaid carers meet MPs for Carers Week Networking Session
On Wednesday 7 June Carers UK arranged for a group of unpaid carers to meet with MPs and Peers as part of Carers Week.
The event was kindly hosted by Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, who is the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Carers, which Carers UK provided the secretariat for.
As part of Carers UK lead role in organising Carers Week, the event was attended by all the charities involved in Carers Week: Age UK, Carers Trust, MND Association, Oxfam GB, Rethink Mental Illness and The Lewy Body Society. Each charity invited carers to attend the event to speak to MPs and Peers about the challenges they are facing and the support they need.
Carers UK was delighted to report that over 100 Members of Parliament attended the event, including the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride MP; the Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Tom Pursglove MP; Sir Ed Davey MP, leader of the Liberal Democrats; Wes Streeting MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care; Dame Caroline Dinenage MP; Baroness Jill Pitkeathley, Co-Chair of the APPG on Carers; Wendy Chamberlain MP; Barbara Keeley MP; Caroline Ansell MP; Liz Saville-Roberts MP, and many more.
